I used to love to get out of town and hike and camp on Catalina Island. It took a while to get to even though it’s probably less than 50 miles as the crow flies. The ferry left out of San Pedro and the boat ride was a couple hours back then. But once the ferry docked the Isthmus, I felt like was a million miles away.
Cat Harbor-Ballast Point Catalina Island 1979
Cat Harbor lies on the western side of the Isthmus and looks out over the endless miles of the Pacific Ocean. Sailboats and yachts anchor in the harbor and rock in the water like a Jimmy Buffet song. Sometimes all it takes is a little change in latitude.
